Visitors often get a strange feeling upon walking through the great wooden doors of a Bulgarian monastery leading them into the peace and calm of a courtyard full of trees, flowers and fountains with silvery water. The monasteries' architecture and anterior are similar to the houses dated from the National Revival period.

Ecotourism in Bulgaria
Francesca Rolandi - The town of Kalofer is in the center of the Valley of Roses, known for the flowers that are grown there. These flowers are the basis of the local tradition and a special kind of industry seen in the production of rose oil and the annual rose festival.
The tourist potential of the area is very interesting as noticed by the members of the Central Balkan Kalofer Ecotourist Association (CBKEA). This non-governmental association is working together with the Balkan Center National Park to gather local craftsmen and the families providing accommodation and tour guides, in order to develop the region's ecotourist offer.

Roaming Through Balkan Peaks

Musala (2925 m) the highest peak in the Balkans
Vanda Panić – Climbing to Musala, which is 8 meters higher than Mount Olympus is beautiful and interesting. It is one of my easiest climbs, especially having in mind its height. It seems to me that it is more difficult to climb our small Ivanscica. Musala in Turkish means “towards the God”. It is situated in Rila National Park.
To head for the peak you start your climb from Borovets, the oldest and modern ski resort in Bulgaria that is some one and a half hour away from Sofia. For those who have climbed Durmitor, Borovets will remind them of Zabljak with a larger number of hotels.

Tanya Mangalakova - One of the major obstacles for tourism development in Bulgaria is, above all, the lack of run-in hotel reservation system or the existence of an internet portal with the description of all the places that should be visited and all the information concerning places to stay over-night and eat.

The Valley of Roses

High peaks of the Old Mountain seem very inaccessible-surrounded by the silver garlands, rising high in the blue skies. They are the first ones to be touched by the flame of the dawn's ruby kiss. The frothy mountain rapids come down these slopes and bring the beauty and fertility into the valleys. Violet ablauts of the powerful mountain range take turns all the way to the horizon, without preventing the wind blow. This is why the sun always shines brightly on this blessed land.
