Project: "Travelling the Balkans"

The idea behind the project “Traveling the Balkans” has emerged as a result of the cooperation between a few non-governmental organizations from Italy and Balkan region. The project is based on principles of Responsible Tourism with the desire to get familiarized and reminded of the existence of yet another significant part of Europe that has been left out of the main European institutions and unfamiliar to a number of publics from the Union and beyond.

Whilst the Balkans are mainly perceived stereotypically as unsafe and not secure due to its history of war, we present and familiarize visitors with the region in an entirely new way – revealing the routes and paths that will leave all newcomers inspired. We intend to show the qualitative places, historical and archeological wealth, local traditions and cultures/customs, and the breathtaking beauty and power of nature here.

Responsible Tourism Network of Southeast Europe

The Responsible Tourism Network for Southeast Europe is based in Sarajevo (BiH). Along with two other organizations who are managing the project, the Network is coordinating the Internet portal www.viaggiareibalcani.org, pages that have been available for publics since the initiative had begun, and providing a three languages edition and database of information for all interested in traveling the Balkans, responsibly. Coordination activities and promotion of the Network has been actualized together with the oneworld – platform for southeast europe team.
